California State Water Plan
Since 2007 Dr. Austin has been a technical advisor to the California Department of Water Resources, helping the state to develop methods to integrate uncertainty due to climate change into their water resources planning process. The publicly available General Circulation Models (GCMs) are far from unanimous in their predictions of future climate conditions and water resource planners need to determine what impact any changes might have on water supply availability and demand. Capturing climate change uncertainty allows planners to develop scientifically sound water supply plans that are supported and endorsed by the public and key stakeholders.
